The County of Fresno Sheriff-Coroner's Office seeks enthusiastic and motivated individuals with exceptional communication skills interested in a public safety career as a Communications Dispatcher I.
The Communications Dispatcher I is utilized in the communication center of the County of Fresno Sheriff-Coroner's Office to receive and respond to emergency calls by telephone or radio; key pertinent data and nature of the emergency into a computer; operate a multi-channeled computer-assisted radio system to dispatch public safety personnel; refer call or caller according to policy and procedure; monitor the location and activity of field units at all times, and perform related work as required.
Incumbents must be available to perform shift work in a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week operation. APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLING TO WORK OVERTIME IF NECESSARY AND SHIFTS AS ASSIGNED INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.
As a condition of employment candidates must undergo and pass a thorough and detailed personal background investigation, medical, and polygraph examination. These investigations include employment and credit histories, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified. Background materials for failed candidates are retained for three years.
Note: The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

|Qualifications||Experience: One (1) year of full-time, paid experience involving telephone contact with the public, and computer experience. Other: Ability to type thirty-five (35) NET words per minute is required.
