The General Counsel for CSSA provides on-going legal advice, guidance and representation to the Association through its Executive Director, officers and staff.  The Counsel is responsible for attending all board of director meetings and committee meetings, as requested.  The Counsel provides information and training to CSSA members on current legal issues by presenting legal seminars and issuing Client Alert Memorandums, as issues arise which impact on law enforcement.

The General Counsel also drafts, submits and argues amicus curiae ("friend of the court") briefs to the federal courts, the California Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court on behalf of CSSA, which support legal positions supporting law enforcement.  Counsel also researches, drafts, and submits legal opinions to the California Office of Attorney General upon request.
