Legislative committee policy

CSSA’s Legislative Committee reviews all legislation impacting the criminal justice system in general and the sheriffs of California in particular. The committee reviews and recommends to the CSSA Board of Directors a position to be taken relative to any particular piece of legislation.  The Board of Directors determines final approval.

In general, CSSA takes no position on such legislation when the impact of its position negatively affects a member Sheriff(s) to the benefit of another member Sheriff(s).  However, that any legislation which is adverse to the efficient operation of law enforcement, professional standards of conduct, or full protection of the law-abiding people of California, may be opposed by the California State Sheriffs' Association regardless of its source.
